Our Curriculum

Trinity School's curriculum is based on the indications of Dr. Rudolf Steiner that have commonly become known as Waldorf Education. Our subjects are arranged in a manner that meets the intellectual level of the children and also fulfills deeper developmental needs. We believe that how a subject is taught is at least as important as what is taught, and therefore in all our teaching we strive to reach the feeling and willing life of the child, as well as the thinking. Through this artistic approach to teaching, the child can experience a sense of harmony with each subject and with the larger world, and a truly healing education can be achieved.

Mathematics

A sense of order, rhythm, patterns, and unexpected beauty pervade our teaching of mathematics. We begin with a rhythm and song based approach the times tables and basic arithmetic in 1st through 3rd grade. In 4th grade we introduce the study of fractions. Mixed fractions, decimals, basic geometric equations, percentages, profit and loss, ratios, and algebra will all be covered in our 5th through 8th grade progression.

Languages

Our Spanish classes allow students to learn an applicable language in an engaging environment with a focus on conversational language learning in a community setting. First through second-grade students have Spanish class twice a week, while all other grades practice Spanish three times a week.

Sciences

We approach the sciences with an emphasis on strict and accurate observation. Theories are derived from thorough observation and detailed reporting. We cover botany, mineralogy, physics (light, heat, sound, electricity, magnetism), chemistry, and human biology.

The Arts

Students participate in weekly painting classes on Fridays, and are engaged in an exploration of the arts through form drawing, charcoal, knitting and crocheting, sewing, and seasonal crafts.

Speech & writing

Strong memory and speaking skills are the foundation of excellent writing, and we use poetry and speech exercises daily to train the memory and speech. In writing, we cover grammar, parts of speech, and the elements of composition.

Theatre and Festivals

The class plays are always a highlight of the year, and our vibrant festival life helps orient us to the larger rhythms we live within. The festivals are moments of celebration, introspection, and community connection.

History and Geography

We begin our study of Geography with our local environment before expanding to the geography of North America and the world. Our study of history begins with the ancient civilizations of India, Persia, Mesopotamia, and Egypt in 5th grade, continues Greece, Rome, and the Middle Ages in 6th grade, before concluding with the Age of Exploration in 7th grade and the Age of Revolutions in 8th grade.

Practical Arts

Nimble hands make nimble minds, and every new skill makes a child more at home in the world. We teach a broad range of skills including handwork, woodwork, gardening, animal husbandry, and woodland skills.
